The MCMM Joe Serventi Memorial Charity Golf Outing is to benefit the Motor City Mitten Mission, a Michigan 501c3 Non-Profit Organization dedicated to helping the homeless and those that are housing and food insecure.  As homelessness continues to be a chronic issue for so many Americans, resources to help these people are seriously lacking. The Motor City Mitten Mission Street Outreach Team has become a vital resource throughout metro Detroit in providing compassionate and necessary services for our unsheltered population.  We are a co-response team working directly with law enforcement agencies, city municipalities and mental health organizations to ensure that those struggling with homelessness are able to receive services that will lead them on a more stable and sustainable path.  MCMM provides approximately 100-150 individual meals daily in addition to clothing, blankets, personal care products, mats and pillows as well as pro-actively engages people in housing navigation and mental health/substance abuse treatment. 

In addition to our Street Outreach program, the Motor City Mitten Mission operated the Macomb County Winter Shelter for the second year in a row.  The MCMM staff once again far surpassed expectations for the shelter by servicing 706 individuals with an average of 96 people nightly. We provided direct services and assistance to 96% of these individuals and assisted dozens of individuals and families into either temporary or permanent housing.  The MCWS closed for the season on March 1st, however MCMM is offering a once a week Drop-In that provides food, showers, clothing and continuing resources for housing, medical and mental health assistance, substance abuse treatment, document restoration, job assistance, etc.

This year's MCMM Joe Serventi Memorial Charity Golf Outing is in honor of the late Joseph Serventi who was a member of our MCMM Board of Directors since MCMM’s inception.  Joe was a dear friend of the Executive Director, Gail Marlow who recruited him to join the MCMM team to help those less fortunate.  Joe didn’t hesitate to answer Gail’s call for help and action, especially during the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic when MCMM needed a place to work out of.  Joe and his wife, Victoria graciously opened the doors of their restaurant, Trattoria Serventi for MCMM to operate out of until we were able to find a new permanent home.  

For over 30 years, Joe was a respected restaurateur in the Grosse Pointe area, where he created a welcoming atmosphere for the community that transcended his commitment to helping those in need. His work ethic and dedication to his craft were evident in the thriving business he built at Andiamo Trattoria, and later on Trattoria Serventi, and the loyal clientele he developed there. Joe’s last job was the manager at Flyleaf, which he absolutely loved!

Joe played such an intricate role in MCMM’s annual Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week as well as our previous two golf outings. Joe was an avid golfer, and it seems only appropriate to have our third annual golf outing in his honor.  Joe will forever hold a huge place in the heart of the Motor City Mitten Mission.
